Senate President Petersen Names Senator Farnsworth
as New Chairman of Senate Rules Committee
PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senate President Warren Petersen is stepping down as Chairman for the Senate Rules Committee and is appointing Senator David Farnsworth to the role, effective immediately.
"As President of the Arizona Senate, my philosophy from day one has been to devolve more power from leadership to the members of our caucus. This effort has included delegating more authority to committee chairman as they determine which bills will advance through the Senate, as well as establishing a member-driven budget process, where members have a greater voice in the budget process," said President Petersen. "I'm continuing on this trajectory by relinquishing my role as the Senate Rules Committee Chairman, so there is less power consolidated within the Senate President. Senator Farnsworth is a seasoned veteran legislator with more than a decade of expertise in lawmaking for the State of Arizona. I'm confident he will work well with our experienced attorneys when determining whether bills are constitutional or not."
In addition to serving as Senate Rules Committee Chairman, Senator Farnsworth also serves as Senate Education Committee Chairman and the Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chairman.
"It's an honor and a privilege to be entrusted by President Petersen with this important leadership role," said Senator Farnsworth. "The Rules Chairman helps determine which bills are constitutional and proper for the vote of the Senate. I'm up for the challenge, and I look forward to hitting the ground running in this new position."
