Joint Legislative Ad Hoc Committee Scheduled to Hear Public Testimony
Amid Growing Calls for Family Court Reform
PHOENIX, ARIZONA—Chairman Mark Finchem is again inviting parents who have been affected by the Arizona family court system to join him at the Arizona Senate Monday, June 16 at 9 a.m. to share their personal stories during the third Joint Legislative Ad Hoc Committee on Family Court Orders.
Those interested in testifying should be aware that legislative committee members cannot offer legal advice, intervene in active cases, or influence the outcome of ongoing litigation. The purpose of the hearing is not to adjudicate individual matters, but to gather testimony to help identify systemic failures. The information obtained will help lawmakers craft state legislation to address these issues in the 2026 legislative session. It is important to note that any testimony presented at the committee becomes a matter of public record and may be requested via public records request.
"While we cannot resolve current individual cases, we must learn from them. Every story shared contributes to a clearer picture of where the system is falling short and how we can build something better for Arizona families," said Chairman Finchem. "The horrific stories we've heard thus far are playing a pivotal role in shaping meaningful legislative reforms for the upcoming session. Too many parents and children feel they have been silenced or dismissed by a system that's supposed to protect them. This is an opportunity for those voices to finally be heard and to drive real, lasting change."
