Arizona Senate President Petersen Recaps Recent Visit with Trump Administration
PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senate President Warren Petersen is continuing to work with the Trump Administration to deliver results for the Grand Canyon State.
Last week, he traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with Trump Administration officials at the White House and the U.S. Department of Interior, as well as to attend the unveiling of a groundbreaking Make America Healthy Again report from U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
At the Department of Interior, President Petersen met with key officials helping to lead negotiations on a seven-state solution for Colorado River water disbursement. He advocated on behalf of Arizona's position in the ongoing negotiations and stressed the importance of fairness and an even playing field for all states involved. He also spoke with U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum later in the day at the White House.
"After my meeting with U.S. Interior officials, I am confident that this administration has our state's best interests at heart," said President Petersen. "The Trump Administration understands the significance and urgency of bringing the upper and lower basin states to the table, along with relevant partners and stakeholders, to devise a lasting solution for each states' water needs from the Colorado River. The Arizona Legislature has a critical role to play when it comes to approving this agreement, making it all the more important for state leaders to inform the direction of negotiations."
At the White House, President Petersen attended the announcement of the release of a significant report for Secretary Kennedy’s MAHA agenda and research.
"It's refreshing to see the Trump Administration align with parents over health concerns for their kids. The past administration gaslighted moms and dads whose intuitions have now been proven right," said President Petersen. "This report is another marker of President Trump's and Secretary Kennedy's progress and commitment to a future where our loved ones are healthier and happier than ever before. I'm proud of the work our state has done in this field alongside the Trump Administration, and I look forward to seeing the results in the years ahead."
President Petersen also had the opportunity to meet with Trump Administration officials after the MAHA event to thank them for being receptive to previous requests and discussing future needs of the state. The meeting took place just after the U.S. Department of Justice rescinded its investigation and report of the Phoenix Police Department.
"In my lifetime, I have never seen a president and his team so focused on listening to local officials and delivering results," added President Petersen. "President Trump has directed the members of his administration to work alongside the states, restoring our founding fathers' visions of cooperative federalism to our great nation. Already, we have seen significant victories for Arizona thanks to this administration's willingness to consider the requests that we have made since January – with more on the way in the months and years to come. I’m grateful for President Trump and all the men and women on his team who are working around the clock to make America great again."
