Arizona Senate President Calls on Senators Gallego, Kelly
to End Government Shutdown
PHOENIX, ARIZONA—Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen is calling on U.S. Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego to stop playing politics, put Arizonans first, and vote to end the reckless federal government shutdown that has jeopardized paychecks, services, and stability across the state.
Senators Kelly and Gallego abused the filibuster process and voted against a clean continuation that would reopen the federal government.
"Gallego and Kelly are acting like Arizona is a blue state. It’s not. And with the way we are registering Republicans right now, this will be their last term. They should be part of the bipartisan coalition trying to keep the government open. Instead, they are bowing to the left fringe," said President Petersen.
President Petersen noted that Arizona families, small businesses, and seniors are being hurt by the Democrats' shutdown in a number of ways:
· Decline of Arizona's Gross State Product by an estimated $296 million each week the shutdown continues
· Delayed benefits for Social Security recipients relying on timely checks
· 58,000 federal workers are furloughed or required to work without pay
· Frozen loan distributions from the Small Business Administration
· Closures of national parks like the Grand Canyon
· And much more
"This shutdown is not about helping Arizonans — it's about defending unpopular priorities like protecting welfare programs for illegal immigrants," said President Petersen. "Kelly and Gallego need to stop bowing to the radical left, put Arizona families first, and vote to reopen the government immediately."
