Senator Jake Hoffman Reacts to Resignation of Head of Tourism Following Major Conflict of Interest Concerns
PHOENIX, ARIZONA— After another Katie Hobbs director nominee was exposed for troubling behavior leading to their resignation, Senator Jake Hoffman is reiterating his promise to ensure only highly qualified, vetted individuals are overseeing Arizona's critical state agencies.
Lisa Urias announced her resignation as head of Arizona's tourism office on Friday, following potential violations of Arizona's conflict of interest laws. Urias had not been confirmed by the Senate Committee on Director Nominations which has rigorously vetted the Governor's nominees and ultimately uncovered troubling behaviors or backgrounds of several candidates.
"The Senate confirmation process under the Arizona Constitution is a necessary and critically important check and balance on the power of the executive branch," said Senator Hoffman. "Democrat Katie Hobbs and her cadre of radical nominees seem incapable of understanding that nepotism, pay-to-play, and radical Marxist ideology have no place in our state government. The Senate confirmation process will be in-depth, thorough, accurate, and honest — if that’s a “pain point” for people like Lisa Urias or any other of Hobbs’ fake directors, resign now. The people of Arizona didn’t expand our Republican legislative majority so that Katie Hobbs could run roughshod over them; they elected us to keep her in check."
