Senator Farnsworth Meets with Uber to Advocate for Enhanced
Transit Solutions in the East Valley
PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senate Appropriations and Transportation Committee Chairman David Farnsworth is encouraging collaboration with ride-share companies like Uber to promote innovative transit solutions in the East Valley. This initiative aims to reduce government waste, improve services for residents, and leverage free-market technology to address long-standing inefficiencies in transit systems.
In a recent meeting with Uber policy staff, Chairman Farnsworth passionately encouraged the team to explore the potential of developing autonomous vehicles similar to those created by Waymo. He highlighted a significant opportunity to create more efficient and reliable public transportation options, ultimately paving the way for a brighter future. Unlike fixed-route buses, which often operate with low passenger numbers, resulting in unnecessary costs for taxpayers and limited service, autonomous vehicles offer efficient on-demand transportation that is available 24/7. These technologies can respond to rider needs in real-time, enhancing road safety and reducing delays.
"We have a responsibility to find effective solutions for the people of Arizona, rather than simply maintaining inefficient systems that waste taxpayer funds," said Chairman Farnsworth. "Meeting with companies like Uber highlights a significant opportunity to let innovation take the lead. I will continue to advocate for a more effective use of taxpayer dollars and improved services for the community. Autonomous vehicles can provide safer and more efficient transportation, and I will keep working to ensure that Arizona remains at the forefront of realistic and sustainable travel options for the future."
