Senate Health & Human Services Committee Announces
Second Hearing on Medicaid Fraud in Arizona
PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senate Health and Human Services Committee Chairwoman Carine Werner is announcing a second hearing on October 1, 2025, at 1 PM at the Arizona State Senate to expand upon the investigation of Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse across the state.
The second hearing will further investigate the increasing reports of fraudulent billing and corrupt referral practices within AHCCCS, Arizona's Medicaid system. The committee will hear from AHCCCS employees to seek answers and ensure they are held accountable. The committee will assess changes to ensure billing and reimbursement practices prevent criminal activity, while allowing responsible providers to care for our state's vulnerable populations.
"Arizona's Medicaid system is facing serious issues with criminal Medicaid fraud, impacting honest providers, patients, and taxpayers," said Chairwoman Carine Werner. "We will expose how bad actors steal and commit fraud, pushing out good providers and endangering vulnerable populations. I will be diligent in creating transparency, holding our agencies accountable, and protecting patients throughout Arizona. Patients, providers, and Arizona taxpayers rely on us to make meaningful changes, and I will not stand by and let fraud continue on my watch."
