Hobbs' Hasty Prison Closure is Crushing the Community of Marana During the Holidays

PHOENIX, ARIZONA— This week, Governor Hobbs announced the closure of Arizona State Prison – Marana at the end of the year, which Senator Wadsack strongly believes is insufficient notice for its correctional officers and support staff who are forced to uproot their lives, creating financial strain during the Christmas season.

The facility is a minimum-security prison for male inmates who are non-violent offenders. Its current inmates will be moved to other prisons in the state.

"For nearly 30 years, ASP—Marana has been a positive aspect of the community," said Senator Wadsack. "Through its educational and rehabilitation programs, as well as community services, the facility has helped both inmates and Marana residents. Shame on our Governor for giving them only a few weeks' notice around the holidays. Although employees will have opportunities to transfer to another facility, many do not have the resources or financial means to relocate or make the long commute. My heart goes out to all the families who are impacted by how poorly this move was implemented. I'd also like to know what the plan is moving forward for the state-owned building that housed this facility."

"This came as a real shock and really hurts our community," said Marana Mayor Ed Honea. "Half of these workers will be completely out of a job. Nearly 90 families were notified just days after Thanksgiving that they won't have a job at the end of December. What do you tell them? You can't buy your kids Christmas presents because you have to worry about keeping the lights on? If I was shutting down or merging a department in town, I would give notice three to four months in advance. This is entirely unacceptable."

The Arizona State Prison—Marana will be closed effective December 31, 2023.

With all the information at hand, one can confidently say, "Her decision will not crush the community as it was announced that all 50 (yes, just 50) employees would receive help in finding positions at other state facilities." coreball

Online auctions Car Auctions Minnesota https://sca.auction/locations/mn allow you to participate in them from the comfort of your home. You do not need to travel far to the auction venue, which saves time and money.

Depending on the time of the auction, you can bid on several cars at the same time, which is not always possible at traditional auctions.
