Sen. Ron Gould was on the Mike Broomhead Show on KFYI this morning talking about the budget.

Members sang Happy Birthday to Sen. Steve Pierce on the Senate floor today. Sen. Pierce’s son Nelson Pierce and grandson Walker Nelson Pierce were also here to join in the celebration.

One year ago today Sen. Jake Flake, R-Snowflake, passed away at the age of 72 in Show Low, Arizona from injuries he sustained after being thrown from a horse.

Please see the letter below, addressed to the Arizona Board of Regents from the Senate and House Appropriations Committee chairmen explaining that the legislative Republican budget is in compliance with requirements to receive federal stabilization funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

President Burns and Speaker Adams have requested a meeting with Governor Brewer to discuss the passage of a 2010 budget solution.

Arizona’s economy has been severely impacted by the worldwide recession. The recent decline in commercial activity is reflected in the state’s record-setting budget shortfall as demands for government spending continue to outpace the economy’s ability to generate tax revenues.

Meet Sen. Steve Pierce, R-District 1

The Senate passed an $8.2 billion 2010 budget early Thursday that takes necessary action to reduce the size of government without raising taxes in this historic economic crisis.

Sen. Sylvia Allen will chair a new Arizona Senate ad hoc committee on climate initiatives to educate the public about cap and trade tax legislation and the cost to citizens and our economy. The first meeting is set for Monday, June 8 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Senate hearing room #1.

Starting Monday, June 8, the Senate will begin hearing bills in committee.

The senate passes a 2010 budget and adjourns the floor at 4:00 am.

The new corporate scholarship tax credit law is named after Lexie Weck, a seven-year-old girl with autism, cerebral palsy and mild mental retardation. Weck relied on a voucher program to attend the Chrysalis Academy, a small private school in Tempe that specializes in working with autistic children.
