PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senator David Farnsworth, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations, Transportation, & Technology Committee, is advancing a comprehensive slate of conservative transportation reforms to strengthen infrastructure capacity, improve mobility, and position the state for long-term success. The set of legislative measures passed out of committee and now heads to the Arizona Senate floor for a full vote.
SB 1024 establishes registration and licensing requirements for roadable aircraft, providing regulatory clarity for emerging transportation technologies.
SB 1455 allocates general fund monies to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) for the surveying, design, and construction of the extension of State Route 24 east of Ironwood Drive, to improve regional connectivity.
SB 1456 authorizes the ADOT Director to designate specific state highways or routes as primitive roads. It also establishes signage requirements to enhance safety and clarity on rural and undeveloped roadways.
SB 1457 prioritizes funding for advanced air mobility vehicles to enhance border security and public safety operations.
SB 1549 clarifies the definition of "ultralight vehicle" to ensure accurate aircraft classification and responsible operation in Arizona.
"Arizona's transportation system is strong, but growing demand requires thoughtful improvements to ensure it continues to serve families, businesses, and public safety well into the future," said Senator Farnsworth. "These reforms focus on expanding capacity, investing resources responsibly, and giving agencies the flexibility they need to meet today's needs while preparing for tomorrow's opportunities. By planning ahead and managing taxpayer dollars carefully, we can support economic growth, improve mobility, and keep Arizona competitive without unnecessary spending or overregulation."
