Senator Farnsworth Aims to Cut Red Tape, Strengthen Alternative Education

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, January 28, 2026

PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senator David Farnsworth is advancing legislation to cut red tape for Arizona's alternative education programs and schools.

Alternative education programs serve students who need flexible, nontraditional learning options. By streamlining state requirements and restoring common-sense oversight, Senator Farnsworth is working to ensure these programs can spend less time complying with mandates and more time supporting the students they are designed to serve.

SB 1026 eliminates redundant recertification requirements for alternative education programs and alternative schools operating in good standing, allowing them to continue serving students without reapplying year after year. These reforms reduce administrative burdens without weakening accountability.

"Alternative education programs are designed to support students who require a different approach to learning, and the regulations governing these programs should reflect that need," said Senator Farnsworth. "When alternative schools are performing well, they shouldn't be bogged down by redundant paperwork that diverts time and resources away from students. This bill reduces unnecessary red tape, provides alternative educators with the flexibility they require, and focuses oversight on what truly matters. Ultimately, it's about ensuring that our alternative education system effectively serves the students it was designed to help."

Upon passage in the Senate Education Committee today, SB 1026 will continue to the Senate Floor for a full vote by the body.
