Senate Republican Leaders React to the Passing of Former Attorney General Mark Brnovich

PHOENIX, ARIZONA—The Arizona Senate Republican Leadership Team is releasing the following statements on the passing of former Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich.

"Arizona lost a devoted public servant this week," said President Warren Petersen. "Mark Brnovich dedicated his career to serving this state and defending the rule of law. As Attorney General, he worked closely with the Legislature to defend duly enacted statutes, uphold Arizona's laws, and protect public safety and constitutional freedoms. He believed deeply in standing up for everyday Arizonans. Mark's story reflected the best of Arizona – the son of immigrant parents who believed in this country, a veteran who served in the Arizona National Guard, and a public servant who took his oath seriously. His commitment to public service was matched by his love for this state and his pride in being an Arizonan. He leaves behind a legacy of principled leadership and a record of service that will not be forgotten. My prayers are with his family, friends, and all those who had the honor of working alongside him during this difficult time."

"Mark Brnovich understood that the Attorney General's job was not about politics, but about defending the law," said Majority Leader John Kavanagh. "Whether it was standing up for statutes passed by the Legislature or arguing cases at the highest levels, he took that responsibility seriously. He stood firm when it mattered, and Arizona is better off because of his service."

"Mark was a strong partner to the Legislature and a consistent defender of Arizona's sovereignty and constitutional principles," said President Pro Tempore T.J. Shope. "He came from a family that believed deeply in freedom, and that shaped how he served. He believed in the rule of law and wasn't afraid to stand his ground. His leadership and commitment to this state will be remembered."

"Mark Brnovich served Arizona with conviction and courage," said Majority Whip Frank Carroll. "He believed public office was about responsibility, not headlines, and he carried out his duties with integrity. Beyond public service, he was a devoted husband and father who cared deeply about this state and its future. My wife Joanne and I were dear friends with him and his family and will cherish the memories we've made over the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time."
