Opening Day Ceremonies Launch Arizona Legislature's Second Regular Session Next Week

PHOENIX, ARIZONA— The Arizona State Senate will convene on Monday, January 12, to officially open the Fifty-Seventh Legislature, Second Regular Session. This marks the beginning of legislative work for the year. Lawmakers, guests, and community leaders will gather in the Senate at noon for the opening-day ceremonies, signifying the formal start of the 2026 legislative session.

Senate Opening Day Schedule of Events:

11:00 am – Courtyard welcome music by the Eastern Arizona College Marching Band

12:00 pm – Second Regular Session convenes in the Senate Chamber

·       Gathering music by Trio Fratelli

·       Call to order by Senate President Warren Petersen

·       Prayer by Pastor Luke Simmons, Ironwood Church

·       Presentation of the Colors by Luke Air Force Base Honor Guard

·       Pledge of Allegiance led by Senator Priya Sundareshan

·       National Anthem performed by Trio Fratelli

·       Remarks by Senate President Warren Petersen

·       Recess

·       Remarks by Brian Mueller, President of Grand Canyon University

·       Introduction of Guests

2:00 pm – Joint Session in the House Chamber

·       State of the State Address by Governor Katie Hobbs

Senate Reconvenes following the Joint Session to complete Senate Business

"This session, our top priority is to provide real relief for the people of Arizona," said President Warren Petersen. "Opening day is both a celebration and a call to action. It offers a special opportunity for the legislature to welcome their families and loved ones to the Capitol as we mark the beginning of a new session. As we start our work, our focus is clear: lowering costs, making Arizona affordable, protecting our freedoms, and enhancing community safety. I look forward to commencing this session and delivering results for Arizonans across the state."
