Governor Katie Hobbs Vetoes Bipartisan Legislation to Protect Arizonans from Skyrocketing Utility Rates, Unreliable Service

PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senator Tim Dunn is calling out Governor Katie Hobbs for irresponsibly vetoing his legislation today that would have ensured Arizonans are provided with reliable and affordable utility services.

"SB 1119 would have required the Residential Utility Consumer Office to focus its efforts on fighting for the safest and most reliable utility service achievable at the lowest retail rate possible, instead of prioritizing any costly radical environmentalist agendas," said Senator Dunn, Vice Chairman for the Senate Committee on Natural Resources, Energy & Water. "This bill would have helped ensure your consumer watchdog is solely focused on protecting hardworking citizens from skyrocketing electric, gas, water, and wastewater costs. This was a short-sighted veto that will only hurt the pocketbooks of Arizonans. Our citizens have been reeling from rising costs over the past five years, and they expect their elected officials to do everything in their power to alleviate these financial burdens, not maintain status quo. Needless to say, today's veto will undoubtedly harm consumers down the road."
