Governor signs bill to bring more qualified barbers to Arizona

Governor Ducey today signed SB 1328, a bill sponsored by Senator Tyler Pace that sets up an apprenticeship program for future cosmetologists who can learn from mentors, get paid and eventually become licensed. The bill also allows qualified barbers from another state or another country to come to Arizona to cut hair.
"If someone has gone through an apprenticeship program in another state or has earned a license in another state with similar licensure requirements, I want them to be able to work in Arizona," said Senator Pace. "These men and women are qualified, and I don't want them to miss out on an opportunity because our state is putting up regulatory roadblocks."
The bill also reduces the required coursework that a cosmetologist or stylist must complete to obtain a barber license from an excessive 750 hours to a more reasonable 350 hours.
