Governor Ducey today signed SB 1401, a bill that cuts regulatory requirements for people working in the booming blow dry bar industry in Arizona.
Currently, Arizona treats people who work in this field the same as those in traditional cosmetology. But these employees don't use scissors or razors in their work, they use curling irons and blow dryers, just as many people use at home.
"There is no rationale for these hard-working people to put in as many as 1,600 hours and spend $10,000 or more to earn a license," said sponsor of the bill Senator Michelle Ugenti-Rita. "There are a lot of jobs in this growing part of the cosmetology field, and our state shouldn't be standing in the way of these opportunities."
