Legendary Violinist to Perform at Arizona State Senate

World-renowned violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman will perform on the floor of the Arizona State Senate Tuesday, February 14, as part of the Senate’s Statehood Day celebration. Mr. Perlman will perform the National Anthem with the Southwest Stringers, a group of orchestra students from Entz and Hale Elementary Schools in Mesa.

Itzhak Perlman is regarded as one of the preeminent violinists of our time. He made his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 17 and began to tour the world soon after. Mr. Perlman has been a soloist for a number of movie scores, including the score of the film Schindler’s List, which won the Academy Award for Best Score. In 2003, he received a Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Honor celebrating his distinguished achievements and contributions to the cultural and educational life of our nation. He’s won four Emmy Awards and fifteen Grammy Awards.

Mr. Perlman and the Southwest Stringers will also be joined by Navy Petty Officer Zachary Henning. Officer Henning just returned from Afghanistan, and he is a Southwest Stringer alumnus.

The performance begins at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday on the Senate Floor.
